Whether a first time home buyer, military service member or Veteran, repeat buyer, Realtor, builder, homeowner, or investor - if you are looking for the best mortgage loan experience, you have come to the right place. Russell Smith has spent his 25-year mortgage career helping thousands of buyers, homeowners, and real estate professionals have a successful closing. In addition to his well-known high level of service, Russell provides a diverse home loan product mix to clients across the nation. We provide the perfect combination of experience, process, and product so that the highest level of success is achieved. Part of this process even includes an up-front underwriting approval to give buyers and their Realtor peace of mind when making an offer to purchase.

Everything in the mortgage process comes down to two common denominators – communication and execution. That’s where we excel in creating the best purchase, building, or refinance experience.” Russell Smith

I believe that understanding how to match the right home loan solution with each individual client’s goals and specific scenario is key to a successful mortgage loan closing - starting with the very first conversation. So, the client and I have a thorough discussion up-front to ensure the best chances of success. Throughout the home loan process, communication and execution continue through closing and beyond. In addition, being available and providing education to my clients is a priority for me because informed clients make better decisions, close their loans on time, and feel good about those decisions.  At the end of the day, my success is measured not in the loans that I close, but in the satisfaction of knowing my clients have achieved their personal homeownership and/or financial goals in the process.

The level of service I provide is not just because of me. I have the best team headed by Amy Kurtyka who is the main point of contact with underwriting, closing attorneys, and appraisers.  She is the best at moving a file efficiently through to closing and is a great problem solver. Also, she happens to be my sister and we have worked together for 18 years in the mortgage business.

Types of Mortgages Offered

  • Construction to permanent loans – Conventional, FHA, VA
  • VA loans
  • FHA loans
  • USDA loans
  • Down payment assistance
  • Refinancing including VA, USDA, and FHA streamline refinances
  • Portfolio loans for scenarios that just miss traditional guidelines
  • Rehab loans
  • Second homes
  • Rental properties
  • Bridge loans
  • Home equity lines of credit
  • Additional bank sources include reverse mortgages, commercial loans, and more

Another area I focus on is providing top-level service and education to Realtors. Often a successful real estate sale starts with a high-level strategy discussion before the purchase process even begins. By explaining potential strategies plus pitfalls, a Realtor can pass along this valuable information to his or her buyer or seller. It is a fact that Realtors who provide education and strategies to their clients have more confident, happy buyers and sellers that close.

Personal Side of Russell Smith

My favorite thing to do is hang out with my wife Angela and our children Anna and Drew (and our cat May). You just don’t know how proud I am of my family. In addition, I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, golfing, trying to live a healthy lifestyle, working in our yard, helping others, and believe it or not, I get a kick out of mortgages. Actually, I’m more like a mortgage geek and have even written hundreds of blog articles on mortgage and real estate solutions. Many of my articles rank number one on Google. Check out http://teammovemortgage.com for to learn more.  My family and I are members of the Lake Waccamaw United Methodist Church. To sum it up, I’m a Christian, family man, will give a perfect effort (although, I am not perfect), I’m serious about business, I’m fun loving away from work, and always looking for ways to help others.

“Russell and the team at Monarch Mortgage did an exceptional job of working with us to qualify for, process, and ultimately, close on, a loan package that was perfect for our situation. We can't say enough about the clear communication, rapid responsiveness, and helpful guidance that they provided every step of the way. This is our third time purchasing a home and this has been our greatest experience with a lender yet. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking to purchase or refinance their next home.”

Justin R.

“I can't say enough about how pleased we were with the team. Russell worked with us to find our best fit options and timelines. Russell was always prompt in response, even after business hours. Closing was on schedule because of their effort. Thank you.”

Robert H.

“After contacting several other lenders who were unable to help, I came across an article of Russell’s. He was able to help get me into my first new home while providing excellent service along the way. Russell and the rest of the team are very knowledgeable, respectful, and efficient.”

John I.

"Russell and the whole team were great, extremely prompt on returning emails on questions ranging from complex to remedial. They made the most complicated part of a mortgage the easiest for me."
